Text Box:

The Fraser Island/Great Sandy World Heritage Area is recognised as a premier Southeast Queensland tourist destination, and many individuals rely on the area for income from tourism-related activities. The construction of a dam on the Mary River will decrease large existing tourism and fisheries industries in the Great Sandy Strait. Ultimately this will undermine the basis of the economy and threaten the future of communities in the region.
